Kevlar® K-159 was developed for correctional institutions as the first stab resistant fabric. This new Kevlar® fiber, which is 4 times thinner than typical ballistic yarns, is used for an ultra-dense weave but still maintains a strength value that is five times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis. It takes multiple layers to make something stab resistant.
IMPORTANT: Testing of any new design is recommended for those companies or individuals trying to manufacturer bullet resistantor stab resistant items using Kevlar. It can take many plies of ballistic fabric such as Kevlar to stop a bullet or sharp objects, so testing of any new design is highly encouraged. Note: We do not have the answer to how many plies your design will need.
IMPORTANT Kevlar® is a Registered Trademark of DuPont.
This Kevlar is made from DuPont(TM) Aramid Yarn and woven into a fabric on weaving looms. It is used primarily in the Safety & Personal Protection Markets. It can be found and used in a number of personal protection applications including but not limited to: Bullet Resistant Vests, Car Armor, Cockpit Door Armor, Bullet Resistant Panels, Bomb Blankets, Fragmentation protection and many non-ballistic Industrial uses. Kevlar can be sewn into multiple plies and is not needle resistant, it can be glued using a polyurethane based glue, it can also be used with Epoxy resins and vacuum bagged in laminating applications.
***. IMPORTANT NOTE: It takes multiple plies / Layers of this fabric to make something Stab or bullet resistant. CERTIFICATION: Testing of your design or application is highly recommended. If you desire to have your end product certified for ballistic protection you can contact US Test Labs, or HP White Laboratory. If you desire to have ballistic certification, Kevlar fabric by itself in a single ply is not rated for any ballistic protection level, it is what you design and make that will get the certification rating. In other words, you have to make something with this fabric such as a Vest, or Kevlar Panel or in this case "your application" and then have it tested at a Ballistic Test Lab to get ballistic certification.

Kevlar 159 Style 779 Kevlar Correctional Fabric
Was experimenting with this fabric in attempt to make some protective drapes to cover the small/sharp tools inside a CNC machine while under maintenance by operators. This didn't work out in our application, to get the needed puncture resistance we'd have to use several layers of the cloth which would take away from the pliability needed and would be cost prohibitive in our application. So the product didn't work out for us- no fault of the maker/supplier. Kevlar Supply shipped the same day the order was received and they clearly stated on their site that multiple layers are likely needed for the cloth to serve in protective functions. 5 Stars, Kevlar Supply did their part, thanks.
